I finished sketching out some more of the storyline last night, and wrote a quick prelude, just to introduce the main character.
The prelude ended up being 666 words long. I couldn't have that, so I found a contraction that I split apart and made it 667.
This morning I opened it back up and it was at 666 again. The contraction had reverted. I'm sure I saved it and there aren't any other versions of it on my laptop, either.
I'll try again, but if this happens even once more, I think I'll have to start chalking out a magic circle before I write any more.

Fellow author blog
I'd like to say that creating this blog was my own original idea, but I stole the thought from fellow writer Mark Tufo, who has a wonderfully humorous book out called Zombie Fallout.
You can check out his blog here:
http://zombiefallout.blogspot.com/
And order the book here:
http://www.amazon.com/Zombie-Fallout-1-Mark-Tufo/dp/145151705X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1280535748&sr=8-1
(You can also get it E-style, by searching for it.)
As full disclosure, I haven't finished it yet. I'm over 2/3rds of the way there, but I only have it on my PC, which is not easy to carry around all over (and I'm too cheap to print it out all). The 2/3rds I have read, though, are quite good.
I would hazard a guess that if you like either of our books, you'll like the other. His is more gory (there are zombies after all) and mine is a bit more crude (sexual humor and the like), but with similar tongue-in-cheek attitudes.

New book -- Ok, there were really several options, but I've finally picked one
So I'm working on my new book. Actually I'm working on around my sixth new book. I've finally decided what direction to go and which book to do.
Without giving too much away, as I'm working on the early chapters now and only have a third of it sketched out, I'd like to think it's a cross between Tolkien and Gaiman. In reality, it'll probably be a cross between junk and detritus. Here's hoping, though!
If I get a few people to follow this, I'll occasionally post bits and pieces as I write it. I hate to give a cut-off point, since they're all arbitrary anyway. Just follow and coerce... I mean convince... you're friends to, as well.

Midwestern Gothic -- print edition
As this is a new blog spot, I guess I should've also mentioned where you can get the book in print form.
Just go to http://www.cafepress.com/jslaven
The panther icon, by the way, was a consideration for my next tattoo at the time I set my "shop" up. It's still in the top five, but will NOT be my next tat.
I'll try to post a synopsis of the book (back cover blurb) sometime soon. But the laptop I'm on doesn't have it, so I'll have to remember to do it when I have the book copy near-by.

Midwestern Gothic soon to be out as an E-book
For the millions* of you out there who have already talked up my book, "Midwestern Gothic," I really appreciate it. For the other millions who have stated you'd buy it if I managed to turn it into an E-book, you're in luck. I've been working on formatting it and will have it set up within a week or two.
For the few dozen of you that have no idea what I'm talking about, I've self published my own book, called Midwestern Gothic. I can say in all honesty** that the characters are completely fictional, that the book is a humorous take on urban horror, and that each and every one of you would (will!) enjoy reading it.
I actually have a few publishers interested in publishing it, although some of them have only expressed an interest dependent on the size of check I write them. There are one or two more possibilities, though. Keep your fingers/pseudopod/genitalia crossed for me!
* based on the binary system of numbers, and even then it's only in the thousands, not the millions. Exaggeration for effect!
** For a given non-normalized scale of honesty.
